We are certain Jesus was the greatest Gypsy ever.
To begin with, He was but a poor Galilean,
homeless and without any material assets. Thus He walked unclad,
as the Gypsies do, He had no dwelling, like the Gypsies do not,
He owned no landed property and neither do the Gypsies, He was
not fond of gathering material assets, just like the Gypsies are
not.
What did Jesus do between
his Thirteenth and his Thirtieth birthdays?
He travelled to India in
order to learn wisdom from the Buddhists.
What did Jesus do between
his Thirtieth and his Thirty-third years of age?
He walked to and fro
throughout Palestine, preaching the Gospel, the Good News. He
performed miracles and slept under the sky.
It was He the One Who saith:
"The
foxes have holes, and the birds of the sky have nests; but the
Son of Man hath not where to lay His head"
(Matthew 8:20).
The Pope Paul VI remembered this biblical verse,
quoting it before a gathering of 2,500 Gypsies and further
commenting,
“See how much Jesus was
similar to you. How close He is to you.”
Again in the Bible we read,
“For I was an hungred, and ye gave Me meat; I was
thirsty, and ye gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took Me
in” (Matthew 25:35).
What I would like to know is which were the
Christians who ever gave “meat” and “drink” to a Gypsy!?
The fact that Jesus was a nomad is not subjected
to any doubt whatsoever. It is clearly stated in several
passages of the Bible.
Try and see below, for instance,
“And Jesus went about all
Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the Gospel
of the kingdom and healing all manner of sickness and all manner
of disease among the people. And His fame went throughout all
Syria; and they brought unto Him all sick people that were taken
with divers diseases and torments, and those who were possessed
with devils, and those who were lunatic, and those that had the
palsy; and He healed them. And there followed Him great
multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from
Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond the Jordan” (Matthew
4:23-25).
“And Jesus went about all
the cities and villages, teaching in the synagogues, and
preaching the Gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness
and every disease among the people” (Matthew 9:35).
He had but one tunic, which was parted among the
soldiers, casting lots upon the Golgotha.
“And they crucified Him,
and parted His garments, casting lots; that it might be
fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, ‘They parted my
garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots’”
(Matthew 27:35).
As poor as most Gypsies
across the world.
